The Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) enables NetBIOS name resolution. If your organization has computers that require NetBIOS name resolution, you can use Server Manager to install this feature on servers running Windows Server 2008 R2. However, we recommend that you investigate the use of DNS alternatives to WINS, such as a search suffix list or a global names zone.
